Krakow is very polluted and air quality may be below standard. But how about the water? Can you drink tap water in Krakow?

Krakow is sourcing water from four different rivers, but the river Wisla is not one of them. Before it gets to our taps, it is treated with ozone, coagulated, filtered and disinfected with UV rays. It is no longer treated with chlorine, which added a strange smell and taste. The process is supervised at every stage.

You may also find drinkable water in the streets of Krakow, although there are not a lot of taps. If you wish to find one, look for “pitnik miejski” or “wodopoj” in Google. However, some of the taps are closed outside the high season.

Krakow tries to encourage citizens and tourists to drink Kranowianka, which is what tap water in Krakow is called (“kran” is the Polish word for “tap”). Therefore, some restaurants and hotels serve tap water to their guests. And this is the best proof that Krakow tap water is safe to drink – none of the restaurants would risk providing clients with an unhealthy drink.
